SOUTH WEST GOVERNORSHIP/HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY ELECTION RESULTS

              

Yesterdays election results in Ogun and Oyo state has shown clearly that people are tired of PDP government in the two states. The people are more than happy with the outcome of the result. The results was not declared until late in the evening, and our joy knew no bound when the Returning  Officer eventually announced the results couple of minutes after nineteen hundred hours, and the entire people of the state went into frenzy jubilation saying the waiting  is worthwhile. Is it our suffering under the scorching sun that we will mention off or our experience with some people that were bent on forcing people to vote for a particular candidate by offering the voters bribe in a public glare, and this pervades the entire polling booth across the states. Reports confirmed the arrest of well known individuals who were caught with ballot papers. Actually the status quo would have remained the same, but we give God the glory.

At this juncture I would like to impress it on the incoming government both in Oyo and Ogun  state to take a cue from Lagos and Osun state. The truth is people in the south west decided to make this deserved changes in the two states based on the performance of Governor Fashola and Governor  Aregbesola.So we expect the the two incoming governors to make sure they do everything within their capacity to achieve what the two ACN governors have been able to achieve in terms of  their performance even if not tried to surpass them.

The people of the two states expect their incoming governors to solve the problem of youth unemployment, decayed infrastructural facilities, educational problem, food shortages due to problems in the agricultural sector, housing problem, energy and problem associated with provision of adequate supply of pipe borne water.

We believe that with our unflinching stand and resolve to give you our mandate to steer our affairs for the next four years, you will not let us down. As a quick reminder you must have it at the back of your mind that it is only your service interms of your performance in delivering the dividend of democracy through various developmental programs which is expected to reflect on the entire citizen of the states in no short time will earn you the second term ticket and not intimidation, bribery, and violent act few days before the 2015 election. A word they say its enough…………………………………..

For people who have been following me on my Blog, I hope you will now agree with me that after all I am not just blabbing. If you recall what I postulate in my write ups (Political Issues In Nigeria before 2011 Election) concerning the recent happenings in the ruling party and the changes that has just been effected through the peoples voting power, then this will serve as a wake up call to the party leaders in Nigeria that people are tired o looters camouflaging as leaders.

On a final note, and this still bothers me to say the least. The President should found a way out to demonetize the Nations politics. Your persistent slogan before and after the election was your desire t transform the country,economically,politically and putting he Nation n a pedestal where she belongs in the comity of Nation. How do you intend to achieve this with the way government is being run in this country? Remember you pledge just a term, but the truth is if you are able to perform the unthinkable, I mean if the Nigeria Nation should work under your leadership, belief you me, I trust my people they would gladly throw back the mantle of leadership on your lap and ask you to continue.

I pray that all of our leaders that have just been voted into office will receive grace and ability to perform creditably well from God. Amen.

FALL OUT FROM NIGERIA PRESIDENTIAL POLL

                                           

The world has spoken and the verdict has been given. The incumbent President was returned as the number one citizen to steer the affairs of the Nigerian nation for the next four years. He scored about twenty three million out of the total number of the vote casted. He came tops in twenty three states and won the required twenty five percent in thirty one states, Federal capital inclusive. The CPC candidates came second with twelve million votes, winning in fourteen states and scoring the required twenty five percent in sixteen states of the federation. The ACN candidates came third winning in one states and scoring the required twenty five percent in four states. So congratulations Mr. President.

With the announcement of the President as the winner of the election an orgy of violence break out both in the core North and the North central. There are three reasons responsible for this.

Firstly the perceptions of some Northerners’ as to the fact that it is still their turn to remain in Aso Rock remain unshaken. So when their candidates lost the PDP presidential primary, the CPC candidates seems to be their last resort. Immediately after the PDP presidential primary, one can recall that the former VP belief the election was rigged.

On the day of the election while watching news on the nations television stations, the CPC candid dates claim that a day preceding the election day, he heard a report that aircraft were moving ballot boxes throughout the country and that they were actually thumb printing inside the aircraft. We all now the pedigree of the CPC candidates and its primary constituency, it’s going to be fool hardy to ask him to discard his source.

Lastly the electorate in the Northern part of the country found it difficult to believe the voting pattern that came out of the south south and the south east of the federation. They did not belief that eighty percent of the total registered voters can participate in an election where only about forty percent came out to vote in other part of the country. This is exactly what pervade most of the south eastern states.Infact in some states in the south east the President scored about ninety nine percent, while the CPC candidates scored less than thousands. However to my own submission I think it is possible. The President happens to be their own kind, so it presupposes that the people are expected to troop out in large number and vote for him just as thy did up north for CPC candidate. My brothers and sisters up north should not forget that the Vice president is of their own, so it is possible for the President to score as high as he did up north even then twice now he had failed to win his ward. Also the general belief among Nigerians is that the President is a good person, but unfortunately he his in a thieving party.

My observation in the Presidential election was that the security was a bit relaxed compared to what we experienced in the National assembly election. We hope this mistake is not going to be repeated during the Gubernatorial and State assembly poll. Their existed a clear cut intimidation of electorate in he last election In some areas in my state. People were been asked to vote for a particular party and bribe were been offered in the process.

On a last note I believe all the claims and counter claims been made by the CPC should be taken to a law court where their case can be established there by allowing the rule of law to take its course. As for my brothers and sisters up north, they should have waited till the next election and massively voted for the candidates of their choice to show their grievances. Burning of houses and killing of innocent citizens is not the right way.Learnt that the Palace of the Emir of Kano was also touched, this is a new dimension to the happening in the north and this gives a great concern. Check out what is happening in the Muslim world in recent time. Hope you are getting my drift? Please all the ruling Emirs especially the Sultan should do something urgently to stem the tide of this ugly trend.

APRIL POLL NOT APRIL FOOL

                                           

The remote and immediate causes for the postponement of the election which was earlier scheduled to commence on the 2^nd of April  was given by the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission in the person of Professor Attairu Jega.Nigerians are still skeptical about the reasons given. They believe that the fundamental reason for the postponement is yet to be stated.

The election did start as scheduled on the 9^th of April as promised by the Independent National Electoral commission’s Chairman. Nigerians are grateful to the Chairman and the entire staffs of this commission for a good job done on Saturday. We believe that the subsequent elections will be better than the feat that was performed on Saturday by the commission.

However we still experienced a considerable level of skirmishes all over Nigeria. Prior to the day of the election and on the election day proper, a bomb was detonated at the INEC headquarters in suleja Niger state killing about thirteen people with the national youth service corps members experiencing the highest number of casualties. On the day of the election, there was another bomb blast somewhere in Bornu state. We also heard that about five people were killed in Ile Ife in Osun state on the day of the election.

Whatever the aims and objectives of the people behind this dastardly act intends to achieve eventually failed to materialized. If their intention was to scare the electorate away from the voting centers, this they failed to achieve because people troop out en masse to perform their civic rights. In the end Nigerians are happy that their votes did counts this time around unlike what we have been experiencing in the last twelve years.

Saturdays election was the exact manner in which Nigerians voted in 1993.Then it was termed Open Ballot system. This system allows the winner to be identified well before the votes are counted. On Saturday we experienced what is called Secrete Ballot system. There is no much difference in the two system except for the secrete ballot only allow for the winner to be declared after the votes have been counted.

I will like to make a recommendation that the secrete ballot system need to be modified a little. Instead for the electorate to be waiting after been accredited, electorate should be allowed to vote immediately they finished accreditation.

Results’ coming out has shown a deviation from the voting pattern as been experienced in the past. The results show that the electorate voted for parties using the achievement of the serving member of the political parties as a yardstick and for individuals based on their pedigree. This time around the electorate used their voting power to elect leaders who they think will be answerable to them. This also presupposes that the elected members of the House of Representatives and senate members will be ready to be accountable in their dealings with the electorate in their constituencies by making sure that they deliver the dividend of democracy to them. The honorable members are quite aware now what is likely to be their faith if they fail to perform.

Interestingly both the upper and the lower house of the legislative chamber will be full of honorable men and women who will be ready to defend the mandate of their people who elected them into office legitimately.

From all indication, it has become crystal clear that a democratic setting that has failed to renew itself inevitably calls for a change. This wind of change is already blowing through the land. I am not surprised as to the outcome of the voting patterns. Those of you that have been following me through my write ups will agree with me on most of the issues I have raise which has eventually culminated in the outcome of the results we are getting from the poll.

Saturday election have come and gone.However, some people still engages in printing of ballot papers and snatching of ballot boxes. Arrests have been made and investigations are still continuing in order to put the culprit to books. It is clear now that miscreants, political thugs, and politicians who believe that they can win election through rigging, violence and subterfuge will not have it easy this time around.

So please Nigerians come out again this Saturday and let us exercise our civic rights by electing our own President legitimately and shame the antidemocratic forces who think they can scare us.

DEFIANT ATTITUDE

                                                           

     Taking a closer look at Nigeria environment these days, one will not be adjudge an unpatriotic citizen with a declaration that government is non existence in Nigeria. Majority of Nigeria will agree with me on this issue. The only people that will not agree are the politician, and the people who are taking crumbs as dividend of democracy from them.

      In the last twelve years of democratic setting, the government has found it difficult to provide the citizen with basic social      amenities. I doubt if there is a state in Nigeria that is enjoying adequate supply of pipe borne water. Nigerians are still experiencing darkness with epileptic power supply for over twenty years now. The road networks are quite bad. Roads that are constructed before independence, after and in the 70’s are better off in standard and qualities than the one’s being constructed these days.Adequate provision of shelter is non-existent. How many Nigerians can afford the houses built under the federal housing mortgage scheme. Those that have benefited from this scheme, how many of them were able to complete the terms of the agreement before the houses are taken back from them due to either job loss or collapse of their investment.

     Social benefits in terms of various welfare packages been enjoying by most citizen of the developed countries especially the teeming unemployed and the aged are non-inexistent. Our state of security and level of preparedness in an emergency situation have been tested several times, and we have been found wanting most of the times. Spate of kidnapping cases, murder, and terrorist acts in recent times have shown that security can be easily breach in this country.

      All these antecedents has led the Nation into the chaotic situation we now found ourselves. People engage in unlawful activities without recourse to law. Most Nigerian families no longer feed adequately well. This presuppose that a family that found it difficulty to feed well will definitely found it difficult to impart values, morals and good manners into its younger generation. Such families will continue to breed generation of defiant characters. All these are result of bad governance. A bad family can never translate to a good society. So in essence family acting as agent of socialization is a foregone conclusion in our polity.

       Some of our leaders are exhibiting this form of character in the way they run Nigeria affairs. They believe they are not answerable to us since they got their mandate through rigging of election process and not through effective and efficient ballot system. This made them to circumvent policies they made themselves through their actions and inaction in the execution of the nation’s economic policies.

        Millions of Nigerians are wallowing in abject poverty and our political leaders are feasting on the nations resources without blinking an eyelid or even showing remorse for their on-human act. I do not belief that one has to be a member of a political party before one can start enjoying the so called dividend of democracy. Since the past twelve years that the People Democratic Party has been the ruling party in Nigeria, their main campaign slogan of poverty eradication has not been reflected on the entire populace except few Nigerians that are fraternizing with them.

         The nation political class is yet to learn their lessons. Their campaigns on radio and television stations shows that they are not yet matured and they equally lack the political intellect on how to organize campaign. Most of their campaigns are tailored towards character assassination, blackmailing, violence, arson rather than been issue based. Listen on their jingles on radio and their campaign on television stations signifies nothing but noise making to the electorate. There are yet to give us an antidote to the myriads of problems ravaging the country. Comment expressed by some of them while campaigning only confirm our fear that the nation had already falling into wrong hands and it is only God that can get us out of their grip.

          I remembered vividly well that during the first and second republic nearly all the political party had manifesto. The electorate used their manifestos to compare the various programs they claim the citizens are going to enjoy when they eventually get into office. So the electorate uses the information at their disposal together with the caliber of people in each political party to choose the party they thought is likely to perform. Today we are only witnessing violence, arson, intimidaton, aggressor, murder and rigging of election. This probably explains why manifesto is no longer in vogue in their political calculations, plans, and strategies. They seem not to have faith in the nation’s electoral system anylonger.Reason being that most of them got to the office through the back door and not through peoples’ mandate.

           Our late President was bold enough to say that he did not get to the office through the peoples mandate immediately he came into office. This statement explain why the political class are defiant in their in their attitude towards Nigerians.

            The current campaign train of the ruling party is nothing but mere wastage of the nations’ resources. It also signify defiancy.The party can not tell us that the money been expended on this projects comes from the pockets of individual party members. With the myriads of problems confronting the nation vis-à-vis unemployment,corruption,energy,inflation,food shortages,housing,security,bad roads, lack of  portable water,kidnapping,health care, decayed infrastructural facilities, decayed educational system, lack of institution ,terrorism, I found it difficult to belief that the Government can still go on spending spree.

With this defiant attitude of our leaders in their resolve to ground the nation’s resources to a halt, it is going to take the nations a longtime to get out of  the doldrums. Their defiancy in resolving to steal us blind by looting the nation’s treasury explain the do or die stands of our politicians to get to the office at all cost. The incessant killings, kidnapping and bombing being experienced in the polity are politically motivated tailored towards achieving their selfish ambition. Age is nothing but a number as the saying goes. However I belief the younger ones should be allowed to take over the helms of affairs in the polity and the old men should leave the stage. We need fresh brains. We need young men that can postulate the right economic solution to the nations economic problem that has defied all forms of solution in recent time.

             If efforts are not made to solve these problems, then the nation should be ready for avalanche of grave repercussion which is likely to befall us in the future. The Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta’s {MEND} threat to bomb major cities the country is an exhibition of defiancy brought about by the defiant posture of the ruling class. That is the truth. If the government over the years had solved their problems, the youth restiveness that metamorphosis into gangsters and gradually threading along the path of terrorism would have been nip in the bud long before now.

          The insubordination of the political class to the teaming masses of Nigeria populace is gradually caughting up with them. Nigerians are still confused as to how a member of house of representative and senate member could be earning as much as #15m and #20m naira per month. To make matter worse, a counselor is earning more than a university professor in our system. What an insult.Definately this is not acceptable.

         A system that profess zero tolerance for corruption and at the same time celebrating criminalities leaves no one in doubt as to the seriousness of this government in justifying its claim.

          Nigerians are in perilous state. Majority of the people are living in penury, while the political class and their cohorts are living ostentatious life. One does not need a soothsayer to inform us that the political class actions and deeds will boomerang soon. We are all living witness to the recent happenings in places like Egypt, Tunisia, Bahrain and currently Libya. If anyone belief that this type of political upheaval been experienced in those countries can not take place in Nigeria should have a rethink and take time to analyze the situation on ground. Some of the reasons which lead to political unrest in those countries are similar to what we are experiencing in Nigeria now.

          Most crime been perpetrated in the country today are carried by the youth. The Nigeria youth corpers, those in service, and those that have finished service but still unemployed have discovered that surviving in Nigeria system is far beyond holding a certificate. One has to fight over everything before you can survive in system.

          The defiance attitude been exhibited by our leaders does not start now. This is an act they have developed since adulthood; they are only using their political platform to unleash their act of treachery on Nigerians. It is a cyclical phenomenon, because very soon most Nigerian youths will graduate into the political class and the cycle will continue. In other words they too will start to exhibit the defiant character in them. So the question is how  do we stop this trend. The truth is people who have perfected the habit of circumventing all known laws, will do everything possible to make sure that the status quo remains unchanchanged.
